A Wedding Shower is a party thrown in honor to celebrate the bride and groom. Literally, a shower refers to the good wishes and gifts showered upon the guest of honor. It is a time for friends and family to get together and give gifts to the bride and groom that will help them in their new marriage.

Historically, the first wedding shower can be traced back to the Dutch. A young girl fell in love with a poor miller, who had given his possessions with some villagers. They fell into hard times and the young girl’s father, angered by her choice of mate, refused to bestow a dowry for the couple to establish a home. When word spread that this had happened, the entire village came together and gave the couple gifts so that they could begin their life together. And thus a tradition began.
