Where should you register?

When you are registering for wedding gifts, it is important to consider these few factors:

 

·        Where are you going to live after you get married? This is important to take into consideration because it will help you figure out the types of things to register for. If you are going to be renting an inexpensive apartment, you should probably not register at stores such as Macy’s. This is simply to help match your living situation with the things you have. This does not mean that you can not register for nice things though! On the other hand, if you are going to be able to purchase a large home, you probably will not be registering at places like Wal-Mart. In other words, do not register somewhere where you will not be able to get things that will look good in your home. Also, if you do not register at the places that are appropriate for you, then you may not get the things that you actually need. What good is a towel warmer if you do not have any towels to begin with!

·        Where do your guests live? Yes, this is very important too! If several of your guests live in states that do not have the stores that you are registered at, you are likely to get things that you do not need! If most of your guests are spread out over the country, choose stores that are located in most every states, such as Target. If most of your guests live in the same area that you do, then you can choose most anywhere you like.

·        What types of service related things does the store offer? This is key when it comes to policy on things like exchanges, tracking, selection, etc. Some stores do not take an item off of your registry until after it has been purchased, making it easy to get doubles. Make sure that their return and exchange policies make returning duplicate items after the honeymoon a breeze!

·        Pick one or two department stores as well as a specialty store. A department or superstore, such as Dillard’s or Target, is a general place where you are going to get most of your tableware and linens and other basic necessities. Most of you guests are likely to be familiar with these stores and will find it easy to purchase either in the store or online. A specialty store is going to be where you can show off your personality. This may be a luxury store or just specialize in something you enjoy.

Above all else, remember that this is your and your fiancé’s day. Pick the things that you know you want, even if they are a little out of the ordinary. It is also a good idea to register at two or three different stores to make sure that your guests have the opportunity to get you something that they know you really want and will use. This also allows for guests to have in option in price range without getting too confusing!
