The following are a few tips to help you get the cake of your dreams:
• Not only are flowers one of the least expensive ways to decorate a wedding cake, they are one of the most beautiful.
• If you desire to have a lighter cake mix, ask that the baker use half the normal amount of sugar water in the batter.
• The wedding cake should be displayed on a table by itself where it will be a focal point. Place it on a nice tablecloth and surround with flowers.
• If your reception is to be outside, be aware that heat melts icing and high humidity will wilt the flowers and cake decorations. The cake should be kept indoors, if possible, or at least in the shade.
• Take a three inch fabric swatch to the cake decorator if trying to match the colors of your wedding.
• Keep in mind that seeds and nuts are sometimes hard for guests to eat. Also, remove any pearls from the cake before serving so no one accidentally chokes.
• Order less cake than the number of guests expected. Some people will not stay for the reception and some will not eat the cake.
• Be certain that the cake is on a level surface where it cannot be tipped over.
• You can save money by ordering a small showcase wedding cake and then having another less expensive cake in the back to be cut and served to guests.
• The bride and groom should discuss the tradition of smashing cake into each other’s face before the cutting of the cake.
• After the bride and groom have each had their piece fed to them, it is a nice gesture that each offers a piece to their new in-laws.
• It is your special day, enjoy it and make it the beginning of a blessed life together.
