While some women think that by changing their surname they are giving up a part of themselves or even feel that it is one more way that promotes women as second class, many females in America’s society today take on the last name of their husband without any question. There is not a single law that enforces it, yet many women do it. There are a number of little girls that dream of the day when they will be able to be a Mrs. Someone. Obviously, that someone is their new husband’s last name. The major reason and maybe even one of the only for some women that they do this is simply because of the tradition that is in place in the United States!
