What topics should I cover at a training seminar?

A training seminar can (and should) be molded to fit the particular needs of your company. Basically any area in which your employees need training can be covered at a training seminar. The term “training seminar” refers to the format rather than to any particular topic. With that in mind, however, here are some of the most common types of training:

· Job-skills training: This is the most common kind of training and is specific to the particular job of the employees. It is usually given to brand new employees but is often followed up with additional training over the next months and years.

· Ethics training: Help your employees recognize the ethical issues they encounter at work and train them on how to make the right ethical decisions.

· Safety training: Many jobs will require additional training on how to safely do the job. This may take the form of equipment use training or proper safety protocol in the case of an accident.

· Harassment training: Many companies now provide harassment training in an attempt to prevent sexual harassment or any other kind of harassment on the job.

· Diversity training: Increasingly, workplaces are diverse places, with co-workers and customers of various types and backgrounds. Diversity training can help you better understand the differences between people and how to improve relationships in the workplace.

· Customer service training: If your employees deal with customers on a regular basis, it is wise to give them some instruction on how to best serve the customers and how to handle the most difficult customers.

· Computer training: Employees who use unusual types of computers or software programs often need this training on how to utilize the technology.

Essentially, whatever training your employees need can be put into a seminar format. Simply determine what they need and prepare the training accordingly.
