How does a training seminar benefit my company?

In general, formal training is more expensive than informal training, so to make it a worthwhile investment for your company, the benefits should outweigh the costs. The benefits of training are often hard to measure, but perhaps the best indication is whether the trainees’ job performance improved as a result of the training.

In 1995, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that less than one percent of surveyed employees felt that they received no benefit from formal training. In contrast, seventy-eight percent of the trainees reported that they “learned a valuable skill that improved their job performance.” Simply put, trained workers are better workers. They may or may not work faster or harder than previously, but the work they do will be more accurate and productive, and more productive employees make a more profitable company.

Leroy Burrell, who was one of the fastest sprinters in the world during the 1990s, said, “The more I train, the more I realize I have more speed in me.” Training opens our eyes to new ideas about how to do things better than ever before. Good training will enable employees and companies to function better and to be more productive.
