Why should my business do sexual harassment training?

The most basic reason to do sexual harassment training is to protect your employees. Sexual harassment can be an intimidating and demeaning experience, and workers have the right to come to work without needing to worry about being sexual harassed. In addition, it is very important that employees know what to do in the case of harassment. A clearly stated policy of how to report sexual harassment can take away a great deal of fear and confusion.

In addition, there are legal reasons to do sexual harassment training. Some states already require sexual harassment training while others strongly suggest it. Decisions by the Supreme Court have, in certain circumstances, held employers liable in the case of sexual harassment by supervisors against employees. The employers would not have been liable, however, had they held preventative or corrective training in which the employee elected not to participate.
