E-learning has its pros and cons, that’s for sure. Because it’s touted as new, innovative, and the wave of the future, people often, and sometimes mistakenly, assume that e-learning is always the best route to take. That really depends on the user: what does he or she want to learn or hope to achieve, how does he or she learn best, what method does he or she choose as an e-learning tool, and how quickly and thoroughly does he or she need to learn the material? Other factors surely play into choosing whether e-learning is right for you. Here are a few of the features and benefits of e-learning:

Learning takes place globally. E-learning provides a chance to learn from instructors across town, across the country, or even across the world, without having to travel from your desk.

Learning is often less expensive. Without the cost of book printing, renting a facility in which to teach a class, and other costs associated with in-person instruction, e-learning is often an economical choice.

Some learning is self-paced. Depending on which mode of e-learning you choose, you could be working at your own pace, giving you a chance to learn a difficult subject in your own way and on your own schedule.

Increased retention. Some studies show that people who learn via technology have better odds of learning more quickly and retaining what they learned more than people in traditional learning methods.

Learning is on-demand. You need to brush up on a subject for a meeting next week? Just pop in the disk, get online, or e-mail an instructor for instant knowledge.

Accommodates several learning styles. Everyone learns differently, and e-learning is great at incorporating those who learn audibly or visually, by repetition or memorization, and so on.
