How can diversity training benefit a company?

One article reports that every Fortune 1000 has some form of diversity program. In 2003, more than fifty Fortune 500 businesses wrote the U.S. Supreme Court to support affirmative action college admissions policies. The future of American business is a very diverse landscape, and diversity training helps companies meet that future. Companies that practice diversity training benefit in numerous areas:

Increased innovation and creativity: A company made up of employees from many different backgrounds has a much wider pool of experience from which to pool. Differing ideas, managed correctly, increase the options of a company and enable it to solve problems and make decisions more wisely.

Improved company morale: When employees are trained in diversity, discrimination and cultural insensitivity decrease. Consequently, workplace morale improves as the team works together.

Better marketing: Companies who understand consumers of differing backgrounds, gender, and ages, are able to better serve customers and better aim their marketing strategies towards specific groups.

Safety from legal issues: Discrimination lawsuits cost companies millions of dollars. Diversity training can help prevent sexual harassment, ethnic discrimination, and other leading causes of these lawsuits. In addition, companies will take a step towards following federal business guidelines.

Globalism: One major reason international mergers fail is because of a failure to bridge cultural differences. Thus, companies that equipped to work with companies from around the world find more open doors on the global market.

Improvement in these areas can make a huge difference on the company bottom line. In addition, employees who are schooled in diversity are more productive workers, and the company reaps benefits from this as well.
