Distance Learning is popular for many reasons, and among many ages and backgrounds of people. Here are a few of the benefits to learning in a nontraditional way:
Convenience. Sure, you might have deadlines to meet just as you would in a traditional classroom. But with many Distance Learning programs, you do the coursework on your own time, whether that’s at 6 a.m. while the kids are still sleeping, on your lunch hour at work, or at any time you happen to be free. This helps people balance their education around jobs, families, and other commitments. And often you can work at your own pace if you need extra time to complete an assignment, or if you are prepared to speed through a project.
Privacy. Many people don’t enjoy the classroom setting, and would prefer to take a course in the comfort of their own home. Distance Learning doesn’t care whether you’re dressed up—or in your pajamas (just make sure you’re not on videoconference if you choose to stay in your pajamas!).
Low cost. Distance Learning is usually more affordable because you’re not paying for the use of a traditional classroom setting, and often you’re not paying for printed materials, such as hefty textbooks.
You can learn your way. Distance Learning offers you the opportunity to choose not only what you learn, but how you learn. If you want to take one course at a time, great. If you want to take several at a time to hurry up the education process, great. If you’re more visual, you can read materials at your own pace. If you need to hear the lessons presented, you can choose audio tapes or video tapes or DVDs.
