What additional business etiquette topics should executives understand?

Company executives often deal with a number of additional areas in which business etiquette comes into play by virtue of their position. Business etiquette training for executives can deal with these additional issues.

Many executives, for example, do a great deal of traveling, including visits to foreign countries. Business etiquette training can give these world travelers a head start on making a good impression with international clients or partners. Knowing details such as the right form of greeting, cultural definitions of personal space and time, and even just a few words in another language can go a long way.

Business etiquette training can also provide executives with advice on hiring and working with subordinates. Training can include how to conduct an interview or a meeting and how to go through negotiations with a client or employee.

It should be emphasized to executives that through their words and actions, they set the tone for etiquette on the job. It is especially important that executives learn to avoid favoritism, and instead, to treat all employees (regardless of position) with equal courtesy. Lillian Eichler Watson said, “You can’t have two sets of manners, two social codes—one for those you admire and want to impress, another for those whom you consider unimportant. You must be the same to all people.”
