Do a quick search of the Internet, and you’ll find millions of Web sites offering tips on better communication. Improving communication is big business, and everyone has his or her opinion on what works. No matter what, a few key points can improve your communication. And if you still want more help after trying these ideas, then feel free to delve into those millions of Web sites. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.

· Be aware of your body language. Body language can hurt or help you, depending on the signals you’re sending. Work on making your posture straight, open, and facing toward the person you’re speaking with.

· Make eye contact. Eye contact makes the other person see that you’re interested in what they’re saying, and can make you appear more honest and credible.

· Listen. Communication isn’t just about talking; it’s even more so about listening to what others have to say, without interrupting. Hear people out before you speak.

· Offer personal space. Make others more comfortable by giving them space. If they move closer, stay there, unless you’re uncomfortable. If they keep moving away, then back up a step.

· Be concise. Long-winded explanations, winding stories that get off track, and stories that never get to the point are clear conversation killers. State your point up front first, then you can give background information as needed.
