On the first day of vacation, you always want to sleep in a little bit. Depending on what you do for a living, this could mean sleeping until 7:00 AM or sleeping until noon. We’ll compromise and say you’d like to sleep until 9:30, which should give you time to catch your hotel’s continental breakfast.
After breakfast, hop in your car (or your rental car) and head to 3903 North St. Mary’s, where you’ll find the San Antonio Zoo, one of the best you’ll ever encounter. After you’re done viewing one of the largest bird exhibits in the world, including the only American exhibit of the endangered whooping crane, it will be near lunchtime. While you’re in Texas, you’d be crazy to miss one of the region’s most popular dining experiences: a great Texas steak house! After leaving the zoo, head to 401 North St. Mary’s for an experience you won’t forget, at Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse.
After lunch, we recommend heading over to Market Square at 514 West Commerce. Market Square is the largest Mexican market anywhere in the world besides Mexico, and it offers over 100 shops where you can shop and experience the Latino culture. Market Square also hosts several Hispanic festivals each year…If there’s one going on while you’re there, you’ll want to check it out! After spending a couple hours at Market Square, it’s time to head to the IMAX Theatre at 849 East Commerce, where you can take in a great show about the history of the city on the biggest screen you ever saw!
These activities will take you right up to dinner time, and there’s no better place than downtown to have dinner. The Majestic Theatre (224 East Houston St.) gives you the opportunity to enjoy dinner and take in a world class show at the same time, which is what we recommend for this evening. After the show, take a brief stroll around the downtown area and look for other sites you may enjoy on your trip. Enjoy the weather…it’s much warmer at night in San Antonio than it is in most other locations…take advantage of that!
You’re probably worn out, and we’re just getting started! This probably is a good time to call it a day, though, so head back to your hotel and try to get some sleep for tomorrow’s excitement!
