Nashville is one of the most well-known cities of Tennessee, and its 526.1 mi² are situated in Middle Tennessee on the Cumberland River, surrounded by Knoxville to the east, Chattanooga to the southeast, and Memphis to the southwest. It is the largest metropolitan area in the state and includes thirteen counties – Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson.
Because of this location, Nashville’s climate is fairly moderate. It has summers that are humid and temperatures that usually rise to about 89°F while the winters are chilly but not frigid – the lows averaging about 28°F. The people of Nashville usually get about 48 inches of rain a year and 9 inches of snow per year. Although not as fair in the winter as some of the other southern states (ie. Florida), it is also a bit cooler in the summers than it is in those same southern states – making Nashville’s location one that is desired by many.
