Knoxville is the proud home of the Tennessee Volunteers who have football, NCAA baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, swimming and diving, tennis and track and field programs. The University of Tennessee Football Hall of Fame is located on campus. Knoxville is so proud of their Volunteers that the Knoxville area code is 865 (VOL).

The Tennessee Smokies Baseball team is located in Knoxville. The Smokies are members of the Southern League of Professional Baseball and the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues. The Smokies are the Class AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Knoxville is home to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. There is a professional ice hockey team called the Knoxville Icebears. There are fencing clubs, rowing clubs, racquet clubs, a canoeing and kayak club, tennis facilities, and several professional golf courses located in the city of Knoxville.
