A great way to start your trip to Knoxville is to begin in downtown Knoxville. Start you day with a trip to the World’s Fair Park and Festival Center. In 1982 this was the site of the World’s Fair. There is a huge glass ball called the Sunsphere which is mounted on a round concrete tower. The lower level of the sphere holds an observation deck which is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 4:30 and there is no charge for entry. There are 52 acres of attractions, shops, galleries, and the Knoxville Convention Center.

Enjoy lunch in the World’s Fair Park or in one of the many restaurants located in downtown Knoxville.

Once you have finished touring the World’s Fair Park you will want to tour the 53,000 square foot Knoxville Museum of Art which is located in the park at the World’s Fair Park. This museum has a small permanent collection of paintings and a sculpture garden but also hosts visiting exhibits. The museum is closed on Mondays, open noon to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, noon to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5.00 for adults except from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays when admission is free.

Take a walk around the campus of the University of Tennessee. The campus has two theaters and the Frank H. McClung Museum in which you can view displays of the city’s archeology, art, and history from 9 to 5 Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 on Sundays. There is no charge for admission to this museum.

Stop in at one of the nightspots or eateries that surround the University of Tennessee for dinner or just a drink.
