Spend a good portion of your day exploring House Mountain which is located approximately eight miles from Knoxville in Knox County. House Mountain is an 850 acre park with beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains. There are three miles of hiking trails on site that will normally take two to four hours to hike. This park climbs 1,000 feet in elevation to Knox County’s highest point reaching 2,100 feet above sea level. What a view! This is also a wonderful area for birdwatchers. Migrating hawks and warblers can be seen from the mountain along with woodpeckers, grouse, scarlet tanagers, wild turkey and much more.
If you get back to town in time and just want some relaxing sightseeing, a trip down the river on the Star of Knoxville is just the ticket. This is a Mississippi style paddle-wheeler that takes you on an hour and a half sightseeing tour. You can also take a lunch or dinner cruise or maybe you would enjoy a gospel or country music cruise or murder mystery cruise. You can board the Star of Knoxville at the Tennessee Riverboat Company located off Interstate 40 at exit 338A Business Loop. Daytime cruises are $12.50 for adults and $7.95 for children, lunch and brunch cruises are $22.95 for adults and $12.95 for children, dinner cruises are $27.95 to $34.90 for adults and $17.50 for children.
