Pedestals used in the design and decoration of a home or office show off your love of history and your classic taste. Pedestals come in all shapes, sizes and materials for both indoor and outdoor use. They can be made of wood, stone, glass, metal, or any combination of these elements.
Many pedestals are designed with interior storage space so that they can be used to store books, bar, sewing, or craft supplies. But most often columns and pedestals are used to support and show off a lovely plant, lamp or sculpture.
When the column is designed in a classic style, such as an ancient Greek column might have been, it can be used as an occasional table, plant or lamp stand or even as one of the supports for a larger table. However, not all pedestals are in the predictable, classic design. Many are vertical statues or sculptures in their own right, with a smooth tabletop surface for placing small objects upon.
Other than the classic Greek column, pedestals also come in a cathedral style, which is more ornate. They can be tall and rest on the floor, or be only a few inches high and adorn a table or cabinet top to highlight a particular piece of art. Many pedestals are also illuminated to add extra emphasis to what rests upon its top.
