Pedestals can be used as end tables, bookshelves, night stands, patio tables, and bathroom counter extenders. They can be made of glass, wood, marble, metal, or any combination of these elements.
Pedestals are available with doors and can function as cabinets as well as for hiding items that you don’t want seen. Many pedestals are designed so that the interior storage capability is a secret and there are no visible hinges or knobs. Other pedestals make the storage capability a design feature by including shelves, lighting, or the ability to rotate and make all items equally accessible.
Some pedestals are illuminated from within in order to highlight the art, plant, or award that rests on top, but others are illuminated from the side or top to bring light to the objects from a higher point of view.
Pedestals can also be designed with upper or lower turntables to give it the ability to display all sides of the objects on top at different times. Many pedestals include this feature so that light can reach the plants on top easily and evenly by simply rotating the column.
Many pedestals are available with different finishes so that once you have chosen the style of column you want, you can also choose whether it will appear to be made of natural stone, marble, granite, or slate. These features are very popular when the pedestal is used as a plant stand since the more natural the column appears, the more it highlights the natural beauty of the plants that rest upon it.
