Occasional tables come in wood, glass, and metal, with stone or glass, and even leather tops. Depending on the style of the room, tables are available in every conceivable form. Occasional tables are designed for use in those places of our homes or offices where something else just won’t fit, or in those places where a table is needed, but there’s not much space. End tables are predictable because they usually go at one or both ends of a sofa. Sofa tables are almost always found behind the sofa, and cocktail/coffee tables are always in front of the sofa. But occasional tables can appear anywhere in the home, in any shape or form.

There are occasional tables with built in storage, display cases, storage, and trunks, boxes, baskets and barrels that double as storage cabinets. Cubes, vases, drums, pedestals, and even large planters with a stone or glass top can function as occasional tables. Any object, large or small, can be used as an occasional table. Large objects can be the table on their own, and smaller objects, such as suitcases, can be stacked to form a table.

With the surge of popularity in internet shopping, the average buyer has the best chance of finding exactly the right table for their room. Shop locally, but do not feel you must be limited by the selections in local stores. If you like to do business with a certain store but they do not carry what you have in mind ask them about special orders.
