Occasional Tables are made to go Anywhere

Occasional tables are designed to be a surprising point of interest in a room that might otherwise be predictable. Since they do not necessarily need to match exactly the other pieces in the room, there is much more flexibility when choosing occasional tables for every space.

Occasional tables fill gaps and pull other design elements together by blending with everything in the room without becoming dull or invisible. Placing a small table near the entry way of your home gives you a place for small things like keys and purses, framed pictures, or even that wonderful piece of pottery your child made at camp last year. Occasional tables also have a place in hallways, living areas and dining rooms. Their one special function is that they allow you a small extra space on which to display what is unique and special about you and your family.

Of course occasional tables come in all the traditional materials. The surfaces of wood, glass, metal, stone, and leather offer the consumer the most flexibility in style, and these surfaces are the easiest to clean and keep in good condition. Glass tables require spotless cleanups with no streaks or smudges. Stone tops would seem to require no upkeep, but it is important to remember that many cleaning products that are safe for other surfaces can be very damaging to natural surfaces such as granite, slate, and marble. These surfaces should be dusted with a damp cloth with no cleaning products at all.

But just as with other design elements in your home, you need not rely solely on what is traditional or expected. Thinking creatively and by searching the internet, garage sales, or even your own attic, you may find the most amazing table that is just right for that hard to fill spot in your home.
