So many times the occasional tables are what we use to bring order to a pile that was in the corner. Placing a table in that corner not only prevents the pile from reforming, but also gives us a place to show off things that are important to us. They brighten a room by adding unexpected color, or fill an open space that felt blank before.
However, one of the best uses of occasional tables is for clutter control. Small spaces require lots of unexpected storage for all our “stuff” and occasional tables can fit that bill easily. Trunks, hat boxes, suitcases, and even old crates or packing boxes can be used as an occasional table in the right design scheme. Since these items all have built in space, that space can be used for storage, shelving, or display areas.
If a sewing area is what you need, an occasional table can support your sewing center without taking up too much space. If extra counter space is what you need in the bathroom, an occasional table can add that space but also include storage space for linens and other items that are infrequently used.
Considering all the uses listed here, it may sound as thought occasional tables are the last touch in an otherwise finished room. But occasional tables don’t have to be an after thought. If you have an occasional table that you love, make it a focal point in the room. Design the rest of the space around it to show it off. Your love for the piece will add warmth to the rest of the room.
