When many people get hot during the summer, the first thing they do is reach for a diet coke or a strawberry daiquiri. While drinks like soda, energy drinks, and alcohol may seem like they'll be refreshing and tasty, they are really danger in disguise. Caffeine and alcohol are serious dehydrators, and drinking them while out in the sun can severely raise your heart rate and blood pressure, dehydrate the body (potentially leading to heat exhaustion and heat stroke), and possibly cause accidents - a real hazard if you're in a car or around water.
Thankfully, there are many tasty alternatives, to alcohol, soda, and energy drinks when you're looking for something delicious while out in the heat. After you've had enough water, try tea, punch, virgin frozen drinks, or a variety of other fluids that will better hydrate and keep you safe in the sun.
