You might not think a place with cobblestone streets, historic plantations, gracious hospitality and chivalry still exists, but once you step foot in Charleston you’ll realize this is the reality of this coastal town in South Carolina. Once you see the stately manors from the 18th century, the horse-drawn carriage rides through downtown and the plethora of pre-Revolutionary War buildings still standing, you’ll feel that you have stepped back in time. This is part of the romance and old-world charm that Charleston has to offer whether you are vacationing, retiring on relocating.

Charleston is located a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean on a mile-wide peninsula where the Cooper and Ashley rivers meet and feed into the Atlantic. The city lies in the southeast section of South Carolina’s coastline. The city of Charleston was founded in 1670 as Charles Town Landing, and 300 years later it is the state’s second largest, and oldest, city. Sunshine is always the order of the day here. The climate is mild through winter and tends to be a little hot in the summer months – making the beaches a popular summertime destination – which explains why nearly four million people visit Charleston each year. The miles of picturesque coastline Charleston offers, championship golf courses, unspoiled marshlands and lively festivals keep vacationers coming back year after year. This is just part of the reason Charleston earned the honor of the number three city to visit in America by Conde Nast magazine.
