» How do I market my Self-employed business?
Getting the word out about your self-employed business should be a daily task. It is tempting to think that if you run an advertisement or hand out some business cards, you have accomplished your marketing tasks for that month. That approach will likely fail. But if you think about every encounter as a possible marketing opportunity and do a little bit every day, the result will be a much more consistent and comprehensive approach.
It is also tempting to only market your business during the slow times. This will result in lag times when you are without much work to do. But if you make a little bit of time for marketing when you are busy, you will be building up business for when things quiet down – hopefully eliminating slow times.
A key step to marketing you self-employed business is to determine the answer to these questions:
- Who am I and what services do I offer? If you know the answer to this question, you will avoid taking projects that do not fit within your business framework, and you will stick to the things that you do best.
- What is my target audience? Knowing your audience will allow you to figure out the most effective ways to reach them.
There are many promotional materials that can be helpful to you as you market your self employed business. Whether it’s business cards, brochures, a website, t-shirts with your company name on them, the key is quality. Any tool can be effective if it is well done and of very high, professional quality.
