Robotic Vacuums Use and Maintenance

Your owner’s manual should provide you with all the information necessary to properly use and maintain your robotic vacuum, but keep the following general tips in mind:

·        Preparation: Remove small and large objects from your floor if possible. Although navigational methods vary slightly between various models, many robotic vacuums begin with a spiral sweeping motion, then slowly move toward the perimeter of the room. The robotic vacuum establishes a perimeter, at least in part, based upon contact with objects, so it’s helpful to provide the vacuum with as clear a cleaning path as possible.

·        Virtual wall units: The virtual wall units are helpful as a method of restricting the robot vacuum to a particular area, but pay attention to the width of the area you block off with a single wall unit. The infrared beam of a virtual wall unit widens as it moves away from the unit, so if the beam is required to block off an unusually wide area your robotic vacuum may fail to vacuum a small area within the room it’s cleaning.

·        Maintenance: If you purchase a vacuum that doesn’t automatically dump its dust bin, you’ll want to empty your bin after each room. Additionally, remove and clean your vacuum’s brushes every 4-6 uses and replace your filter as needed. In order to maintain as much navigational integrity as possible, it’s also a good idea to periodically clean the sensors of your robotic vacuum.
