Robotic Vacuums Features

There are many available features on contemporary robotic vacuums, but certain features are shared by robotic vacuums throughout the cost spectrum, so we’ll briefly examine a few of those standard features before moving on to the less common options.

·        Infrared sensors: Infrared sensors provide robotic vacuums with much of the information that guides their movements and cleaning modes. Some infrared sensors calculate room size, while others help the robotic vacuum avoid stairs and vacuum closely around walls and other objects without touching those objects.

·        Remote control: Remote controls are provided with most robotic vacuum purchases, and even the most basic will allow users to choose a cleaning mode for their robotic vacuum.

·        Virtual Wall Units: These small pieces of gear allow robotic vacuum owners to limit the cleaning area of a robotic vacuum. The virtual wall units emit infrared signals that tell the robotic vacuum to move away from the area covered by the infrared beam. It’s not uncommon for manufacturers to provide one or two virtual wall units with the purchase of a robotic vacuum, but if you need additional units you’ll need to purchase those separately.

Regardless of the price of your robotic vacuum, it’s likely that your vacuum will possess some, if not all, of the features listed above. However, it’s probable that you’ll pay a bit more if you choose some of the features listed below:

·        Auto-dumping: Most robotic vacuums, regardless of their navigational ability or cleaning power, have no idea whether their dust bin is full, so you’re forced to regularly check the vacuum for overflow. However, some models will automatically dump their dust bins before charging.

·        Self-charger: Models that utilize a self-charger remove much of the supervisory worry from robotic vacuum ownership. When the battery requires recharging, the vacuum simply returns to its charging station. Many models will also resume vacuuming after recharging.

·        Pre-set cleaning schedules: This feature allows owners to tell their robotic vacuums precisely when, and for how long, they should vacuum. If you’re supplementing your normal Saturday vacuuming with your robotic vacuum, for example, you could tell your robotic vacuum to perform a mid-week vacuuming session each week.

·        Quiet mode: Most robotic vacuums aren’t terribly loud anyway, but models with this feature are less likely to disturb you as they go about their work.
