The number of convenient, efficient appliances in contemporary kitchens is truly amazing. As you’re likely aware if you already own one, few kitchen appliances offer the versatility of a well-constructed food processor. Grating cheese, grinding peanuts or almonds into butter, and preparing salsa are just a few examples of the types of things that even the simplest food processors can handle. More advanced processors allow to owners to knead bread and prepare fresh juice, among many other options.


Americans began to acquaint themselves with the food processor in the early 1970’s, after its introduction to the American market by engineer Carl Sontheimer. From those humble beginnings, sales of food processors have continued to mount, and the market for food processors is large, diverse and highly competitive. Though food processors are generally classified as full-sized, compact or mini, there is an enormous variety of shapes and sizes within the market. Moreover, manufacturers frequently introduce new features as they attempt to distinguish their food processors from those of their competitors. Given the wide range of shapes, sizes and optional features, price ranges on food processors are quite large, with an approximate range of $25-$300 or more.
