Cleaning and Storing Your Deep Fryer

Remember that your deep fryer is an electric appliance, so you should never immerse it in water. Instead, after your deep fryer has completely cooled, use paper towels to wipe the cooking pot and heater dry. You can use warm water and mild detergent to clean the lid, basket, main body, and control box of the deep fryer. Some parts of your deep fryer may be dishwasher safe, but as with all deep fryer cleaning, check the instructions of your owner’s manual before you take that step.

You should clean your deep fryer before you store it, and never store your deep fryer with any oil still in it. Try to consolidate your deep fryer (e.g. put the handle of the basket into the basket itself) to save space, and store it in a dry area.

Instead of pouring out your oil, however, save your oil and reuse it. You can reuse the same cooking oil up to a dozen times, especially if you only rarely used it with meat. Pour your oil into a container, making sure to remove any food debris, and then place the container in the refrigerator.

If you notice a bad smell or excessive foaming or smoking as you cook, you should change you oil, but otherwise you can keep it for a few weeks or months. Do not, however, combine fresh and used oil or two different types of oil.
