“Java”, “Cuppa Joe” or whatever you like to call it, coffee just can not be beat first thing in the morning to get the eyes open and the blood flowing. But what is the best way to get that oh so very necessary cup of coffee made. Coffee makers come in a variety of forms and with an array of functions, from very unpretentious for those who want it simple and to the point, to very sophisticated for those who want their coffee practically made for them. Either way, it is very important to know just what to look for in a coffee maker in order that you might understand which coffee maker is right for your coffee making needs.
• Drip vs. Percolator: Now this is fairly easy for most consumers, but it can’t be left out all together. There are percolator coffee makers to be had and they basically make coffee by creating steam that push water up through tubing and into a basket holding the coffee and back into the coffee pot. It is a rare consumer that prefers to go this route, but we do need to mention it. On the other side is the most popular route by far and that is the drip coffee maker. In this model the water is brought up through tubing where it streams into either a flat bottom filter or a cone filter holding the coffee and from here it drips into the coffee pot.
• Regular Drip vs. Shower-Head: Traditional drip coffee makers are what you will find in most models; however, there are some models that offer what is termed the “shower-head delivery” feature. This feature sprays the water over the entire portion of the coffee grounds, thus saturating the coffee more evenly and according to the manufacturer’s sales pitch, more consistently. The premise is that this produces an all-around better cup of coffee.
