Winter Park. Copper Mountain. Keystone. Breckenridge. The ski resorts in Grand and Summit Counties are the big names in Colorado skiing. The towns themselves may not have the reputation of Aspen or Vail, but the resorts offer the complete package for a Colorado skiing vacation.
Winter Park is less than two hours from Denver and has plenty of snow and great mogul skiing. Copper Mountain is naturally split between green, blue, and black runs, and Keystone is known for its large size and its quality night skiing. Breckenridge is another large resort and also offers a quaint downtown area.
The price of these resorts is only slightly less than Vail or Aspen resorts. Breckenridge, for example, costs $75/day during peak season. Most of these big name resorts also offer a multi-day/multi-resort pass that allows you to explore multiple parks. If you are an experienced skier and know your way around Colorado a multi-resort pass might be worthwhile, but for a first-timer, you’ll have all the fun you need just exploring one park for a few days.
There’s a reason these resorts are among the most popular for out of town families: they offer plenty of skiing for all skill levels. They are also easily accessible and have plenty of convenient lodging. They tend to be crowded during the busy season and are expensive, but you can have a great time.
