Aspen combines great skiing with one of Colorado’s most historic and quaint towns. Aspen’s charm has also led to its reputation as the winter playground of the rich and famous. As for the skiing, there is terrain for all skill levels, but it is spread among the four Aspen resorts.

Aspen Mountain, also known as Ajax, is limited to blue (intermediate) and black (expert) runs, but there are excellent runs if you are willing to pay the $78 lift ticket price. Aspen Highlands and Snowmass also have mostly blue and black runs. On the other hand, Ski Magazine named Aspen’s Buttermilk resort the best mountain in America for beginners, and it has great kids’ programs, as well as some more advanced terrain.

The attraction of Aspen skiing is the combination of the town and the skiing. If you’re going to be in the area for several days, look for passes that will allow you to try out more than one resort, and take a day off to rest your legs and explore the town.
