Where do I begin?

The first thing you need to do before buying a snowboard is ask yourself what type of snowboarding you intend to do. There are three basic types of snowboarding:

·        Freestyle (technical) – This type of snowboarding includes trick riding, jumps, spins, grabs, jibbing, and rail sliding. However, this board is not only for the experienced snowboarders (see section below concerning freestyle boards).

·        Freeride (all mountain) – This type of snowboarding basically covers the entire mountain. A freestyle board is great for snowboarding at ski resorts. They can be used for jumps, banks, and halfpipes. These are light and flexible yet stiff enough for durability.

·        Alpine (carve) – This snowboarding combines speed and deep turns and uses the whole mountain. Alpine riders are continuously transitioning from one turn to the next. This type of snowboarding is all about high speed and hard carving.
