The best place to locate a scuba instructor is at your local dive shop. Many places that rent or sell scuba equipment will have resources to help you locate an instructor if they do not offer training themselves. There are several things to look for when choosing a scuba instructor.

• Is the instructor certified by a reputable diving association, such as the ones outlined above?
• Is the instructor an effective communicator? Does he help you to understand the basic concepts of scuba?
• Is the instructor willing to spend extra time with you if you do not understand or if you need assistance?
• Is the instructor affiliated with a scuba organization, such as a dive shop or other recreational diving group?
• Does the instructor demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge about scuba diving?
• Does the instructor have a significant amount of practical diving experience?
