I was on the island of Dominican Republic for my honeymoon and decided that I wanted to do an excursion with my wife. We went to the resort desk and wondered about the different kinds of trips. He quickly pointed us to a brochure of opportunities we had. We glanced over them and came to rest on a sailboat ride to a private island. But as I was looking over some of the others, I saw scuba diving. This could be my only opportunity to do this. But there was some italic print underneath the description that said scuba license required. We could have gotten the license while at the resort, but we only had two days left in our trip and not enough time to work through the proper courses. Too bad – but the sailboat was amazing. When I returned to the US I wondered about that certification and what it involved.
The first question I had was what kind of person do they turn away from scuba certification. I know that my Aunt had done it and some of my friends, but all that said was someone between the ages of 20 and 35. The second question I came up with was what do I look for in a scuba diving school. What makes one school better and one school worse? And then my cheap mind kicked in and I wondered about the cost of the dive school and how long is it going to take me to complete. The final question I had was if I could use this further in any other aspect of my life. Could a career come out of this and/or would I need additional training for different kinds of dives that I wanted to take.
