Why not start out your vacation by spending the first day strolling through one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, Fisherman’s Wharf. This is one of the best spots in the city to go shopping so you will want to bring some money along! The area for shopping begins at Pier 39 and finishes at Ghirardelli Square. The Wharf is home to such popular spots as the Haunted Gold Mine, The Wax Museum, and Medieval Dungeon. Don’t forget to look for the sea lions that have taken up residency on a nearby floating dock; they are sure to provide some entertainment.
While there make sure you stop at Pier 39, the third most visited attraction in the United States. Filled with buzzing activity, Pier 39 provides entertainment, shops, restaurants with fresh crab, rides, and loads of fun for the kids. You can even stop to watch the lively street entertainers. In addition, there are some amazing views along the Pier.
After the day is over, hop onto a cable car (the most dramatic is the Powell-Hyde line) at the wharf and enjoy the scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the bay. In the evening, set out for the area south of Market Street to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art where you can observe art by local, international, and European masters.
