Today's technology has the ability to be taken on the road, and all the new gadgets are making RVing more and more attractive to travelers of all ages. Most RVs come equipped with amenities such as complete kitchens and bathrooms, heating and air-conditioning, and queen-sized beds. While it is truly amazing to travel amidst these comforts of home, many families today are choosing to travel by RV because of the freedom and control they provide.
RVs have entered a new era of electronics. Today's RV manufacturers are adding on innovative equipment, and it just keeps getting better. The newest RVs are considered to be “high-tech homes on wheels,” designed for the most comfortable travel possible. These amenities are changing the definition of road trips from long and boring to fun and exciting!
The most popular electronics include flat-screen televisions, satellite dishes, video game systems, cellular phones, laptop and desktop computers, CD players, DVD players, and surround sound stereo systems, complete with headphone capability. You can imagine how easy it has become to travel with children and teenagers since there are so many options for entertainment.
For easier and safer driving, RVs can have automatic leveling systems and closed-circuit rear-view cameras for backing up. If it's privacy you want, invest in some power window
curtains or shades. For rest and relaxation, try a seat with a built-in heat and massage mechanism, or simply use the touch-screen to control the RV's temperature!
You'll never have to worry about your food spoiling if you have an RV with a freezer that fits in the “basement” of the vehicle. Refresh your drink with ice from the automatic ice-maker, or make sure you can stay in touch by charging your two-way radio with the built-in charger. You can even have frequent cookouts using your fold-out exterior barbecue grill.
Following are some other high-tech features that product designers find are popular:
- Moving Walls: Once you've reached your destination, you can actually expand your living space with moving walls, also known as “slideouts.” Slideouts are automatic, so push the button, and you can have up to three-and-a-half feet of extra space. In some cases, this will nearly double the floor space of the RV. Statistics show that slideouts are becoming more and more popular; at least half of all new RVs have them.
- Space Savers: Many RVs now have space-saving trash compactors and smaller dishwashers. These appliances slide in like drawers and are less visible. The smaller dishwashers clean dishes with less water and noise.
- Dual-Purpose Appliances: Everyone is familiar with the combination TV/VCRs that are on the market today. These really conserve space on an RV, and so do combination washer-dryers. Install a combination microwave-convection oven and there will be no need for a conventional oven.
- Satellites: Wouldn't you love to have satellite television and radio without the eyesore of a satellite dish? Then install a new small direct broadcast antennae on your RV. Some models even work on the road, so you won't have to stop traveling to watch your favorite sports team play.
- GPS: Throw out your maps, because your GPS (Global Positioning System) will map out your trip for you. If you're lost, the GPS will immediately let you know your location. No more stopping for directions!
- Internet Access: In today's society, the Internet is an invaluable tool. With it you can access weather and travel information, get some work done, and stay in touch with family and friends, right in your RV. You can even e-mail pictures from your trip! Many RVs now come equipped with Web TV and/or Internet jacks. Some RV bedrooms even convert into mobile offices! Statistics show that 17% of all RV owners travel with computers, and 16% access the Internet from the road.
Because of the increase in RV electronics, many campgrounds now offer telephone connections as part of their standard hook-up service. Some campgrounds even offer wireless modems or kiosks with high-speed Internet access!
With all of these options, your biggest problem will be deciding who's driving!
