The tour that is right for you depends on the amount of money you want to spend and the type of experience you have in mind. The Spirit of Newport is an inexpensive harbor tour from which you will view the Newport Bridge, Rose Island, Jamestown, Goat Island, Fort Adams, and Hammersmith Farm. You can catch this tour from Bowen’s Wharf in Newport.
From Goat Island you can take a sailboat tour which consists of either a 1 hour ($20.00) or 2 hour ($40.00) tour of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay Call. 401-246-1594 to make arrangements.
After your harbor tour, have lunch on Bowen’s Wharf and take in some of the eclectic shops along the wharf.
In the afternoon, take a trek around the 3 ½ mile Cliff Walk. It begins from Easton’s Beach which is also called First Beach and takes you along the eastern shore of Newport where you will be able to view the Gilded Age Mansions on one side and the rocky coastline on the other. Be aware that the unpaved sections can be a bit tricky for small children, strollers, or people who have mobility issues.
