Be aware that most properties in Newport, Rhode Island do not accept reservations for Saturday night only. You can take a chance on a Friday night or Saturday morning and check for last minute cancellations.
The rates in Newport are very much seasonal, winter rates are often half those of summer. “In season” in Newport runs from around May 15th to October 15th. You can usually get discounted rates Sundays through Thursdays. During that time period you can expect to pay the following rates per night for lodging in Newport:

Full-service hotels:
• Castle Hill Inn & Resort – Located on a forty-acre peninsula at the west end of Newport’s Ocean Drive. Castle Hill was originally built as a summerhouse for the renowned scientist and explorer, Alexander Agassiz, in 1874. This extraordinary private oceanfront resort not only offers rooms in the restored Agassiz Mansion, but also has private harbor houses, beach houses, cottages, and a private Swiss-style chalet with an adjoining terrace. Located on the property are the Castle House lighthouse and a secluded private beach. The Inn offers beautiful wedding ceremonies and receptions with a view of the Narragansett Bay, Newport Bridge, and Atlantic Ocean. Among the many amenities of the Castle Hill Inn & Resort are patio dining, Adirondack chairs on the lawn, landscaped gardens, hot tub, whirlpool, fireplace, and complementary breakfast. Staying at the Castle Hill Inn & Resort may be pricey at the rate of $275 - $495 a night, but oh what an experience!
• Vanderbilt Hall Hotel – Located in the Historic Hill District, this five star Georgian Revival mansion was given to the people of Newport, Rhode Island as a gift from the Vanderbilt family in 1909. It was originally the Newport Men’s Social Club before being converted into a 51 room hotel. Each room is designed using a mix of themes and styles featuring down comforters and Egyptian cotton liners. Terry cloth robes and English toiletries are provided. The Vanderbilt features a glass conservatory, flower garden patio, wood burning fireplace, and a relaxing hall with overstuffed seating for your comfort after a long day of sightseeing in Newport. The Vanderbilt also offers a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna fitness area, and massages. During off season rates run from $129 to $449 and $289 to $609 during in season.
• The Viking – Located at the north end of the “avenue of mansions,” this three and a half star hotel opened in 1926 but was renovated in 2003. This Viking is a boutique hotel that has been recognized among the prestigious Historic hotels of America. There are 222 guest rooms and suites that have been restored with classic Queen Anne and Chippendale style furnishings. While you will have the feel of heritage and privilege staying at the Viking, you also can enjoy the up to date amenities of television, movies in-room, high speed Internet access with data port, and voicemail. Room rates start at $109.
• Hyatt Regency Newport – Located on the tip of Goat Island, this four star hotel offers the most magnificent views of the Newport Harbor and the Narragansett Bay. The Hyatt Regency is a five minute walk from downtown Newport where you will find the most charming shops, historic attractions, bistros, restaurants, mansions, and yachts. The guest rooms are furnished with polished wood furnishings, one king or two double Grand Beds with pillow-top mattresses and ultra-plush pillows, down blankets, Portico bath products, wireless Internet access, on-demand programming, and the daily newspaper delivered to your door. Room rates start at $129.
Limited-Service Inns:
• America’s Cup Inn – Located on historic Thames Street, this two and a half star, four story hotel features Colonial style furnishing and suites with fully equipped kitchens. The America’s Cup Inn is one block from the Newport Harbor and Bowen’s Wharf. On Thames Street you will find cobblestones and gaslights, restaurants, night clubs, shops, and antique stores all within walking distance. A daily breakfast buffet is provided along with wireless Internet access in the hotel, but not in the individual rooms. Rates are from $129 to $385.
• Mill Street Inn – Located in the center of Newport’s Historic Hill neighborhood, the Mill Street Inn is a small all-suite inn that was converted from an old saw mill dating from 1815. The inn has been restored and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mill Street Inn is within walking distance of the Newport Harbor, International Tennis Hall of Fame, Trinity Church and Old Stone Mill, Bellevue Avenue Mansions, and the Cliff Walk. There are fabulous restaurants and shops a short walk away and the hotel offers a continental breakfast. Other amenities are free parking, high speed Internet access, afternoon treats and teas, and a daily newspaper. Rates start at $135.00
Bed and Breakfast:
• The Captain Preston House Bed & Breakfast – Located in the heart of downtown Newport you will be within walking distance to all area attractions, wonderful shops and restaurants. The rooms are decorated with antiques, have fireplaces, air conditioning, and private baths. You will be served a hearty breakfast. The average room rate is $220.00
• The Weatherly Cottage – Located at the southern end of Newport, this cozy cottage offers a relaxed atmosphere in the garden or on the deck. A full breakfast is served.
• The Ivy Lodge – Located in the mansion district and just minutes from the Cliff Walk. The Ivy Lodge is a Victorian style B&B with a 33 foot gothic entrance, wraparound porch, whirlpool tubs, and fireplaces. A full gourmet breakfast is served each morning. The average room rate is $149.00.
