Can I publicize the ISO Certification of my business?

An independent auditor has just registered your company as ISO certified. The process was long and not inexpensive, but you’ve now instituted a QMS that meets the standards of ISO – can you now tell the world about the accomplishment of your business? Absolutely, but there are some restrictions of which you should be aware. The list below is not exhaustive, but does note some things to avoid if you choose to publicize your ISO certification.

  • Avoid the use of the ISO logo. If you want to use a logo that commemorates your certification, ask your independent auditor if you can use their logo.
  • Don’t make claims of “general” ISO certification. ISO uses several different systems depending upon industry, and even the most general standards sometimes vary based upon the year of their adoption, so precisely list your specific ISO certification.
  • Don’t imply that your ISO certification operates as a guarantee of product quality or conformity. Your certification means only that your good or service was produced under ISO’s standards.
  • Don’t place markers of ISO certification on your products, since that potentially implies that ISO guarantees the quality or conformity of the product.
