Each flag that belongs to a nation has a reason behind the design and whilst many people don’t think about the motives put into a certain style, it is good to think there is always a reason and mainly locals are very appreciative and consider it a part of national heritage like many other countries do.

The Portuguese flag is red and green with the shield located centrally. The green portion of the flag is dedicated to the future and the red refers to the blood of the nation from the various wars that have been fought.

The yellow dots with the shield mean seven different castles through the country and the five blue symbols are in memory of five different kings that were subsequently defeated by Portugal’s first king.

Top Fact: The current style has been used since 1910 and whilst the design has stayed pretty much the same, there have been other designs that have been used years before the present flag that is shown throughout the land and almost certainly, with pride.
