Plumbing Training Overview

Did you ever call the plumber when a pipe broke in your house, or when your toilet overflowed, or you faucet stopped functioning properly? Nine times out of ten you watch him as he made repairs, collected his big fee, and leave. As you watched him work, you were amazed by what he did and how he did it. You start thinking to yourself it you could get into this line of work, especially since what you are doing now is not really paying off for you let you want. The answer to that is yes. But it requires one thing – training. When you starting looking into ways of getting that training, you start wondering if you can get the type of training to fit your lifestyle. There are many ways to get the training you want to be a plumber. It just takes time and a commitment from you. So what do you have to learn to be a plumber? Here are some areas you would have to know that will qualify you to be a plumber:

 

·        Modern Plumbing Fixtures: When you get involved in a course from any school, the first stage is learning about fixtures, especially bathroom sinks. You will also learn about toilets, urinals, bathtubs, steam generators, and water fountains. In order to work on them you have to know about them, how they are made, etc.

·        Plumbing Tools and Safety: After you learn about fixtures, you will learn about plumbing tools you will use. This part of the course will teach you how to select the right tools, use and maintain them. The kinds of tools you will become familiar with include measuring, layout, marking, alignment, cutting, assembling, and holding tools. You will also learn about safety and how to properly handle any type of plumbing tool. You will be shown how to reduce accidents and injuries. You will also be shown how to handle ladders scaffolds, ropes, and other hoisting devices.

·        Math for Plumbers: Before you go into the actual hardware, you will need to know how to take measurements for cutting purposes. You will learn how to read a rule, add and subtract lengths, computer area and volume, and will be shown how to convert to the metric system.

·        Pipes, Fittings, Valves, and Faucets: In this part of the course you will learn about the different materials that are used in the replacement parts you will use. Such materials include cast iron, steel pipe, copper, plastic pipe, valves, kitchen and bathroom faucets, fixtures, single pipe systems, and water meters.

·        Blueprint Reading: If you are going to be a plumber, you must know how to read blueprints. Because of this, you will learn about blueprints including how to interpret them.

·        Pipe and Fittings Installation: Now comes the nitty gritty. Here you will actually learn how to install pipes and the fittings. You will learn how to attach laterals to the water main, measure, cut, and join pipes. You will also learn how to install fixtures and copper pipe. You will learn how to solder and how to inspect solder joints, plastics, and adhesives.

·        Plumbing Systems Design: In this part of the course, you will learn how to design pipes, vents, and water systems. You will learn how to use and read the builder’s level and cold beam laser. And lastly, you will learn how to install drainage, waste, and venting systems.

·        Water Supply and Treatment Systems: In this part of the course, you will learn how to locate a well, the type of wells you will find, the water pumps used, and how to install pumps.

·        Waste Disposal Systems: In this part you will learn all about private waste disposal systems and how septic systems work. You will learn how to get rid of excess ground water and how to maintain plumbing systems.

·        Installing Water Heaters and Air Conditioning: You will learn all about storage-type water heaters and other types of water heaters. You will also learn about water coolers, and air conditioning systems. You will also learn how to install an air conditioning system.

·        Spas, Swimming Pools, and Sprinklers: In this section, you will learn all about spas, swimming pools, and sprinklers, including how to install them.

·        Maintenance and Repairs: Here you will learn how to detect, test, and repair problems in the water system and everything attached to it including faucets, toilets, and pipes.

·        Plumbing Codes: No course is complete until you learn about the newest plumbing codes. You will all about plumbing codes.
