» What are some features of automatic pet feeders?
Automatic pet feeders usually have a programmable timer; it is, after all, what makes them "automatic." If it plugs into the wall, make sure the cord is chew-proof.
Some of these feeders have extra storage, so you can "forget" to feed your pet one day and it will still be fed. Some have a built-in backup battery; if it is a plugged-in model, you want this feature so it will still work during a power outage.
An automatic shut-off closes the food dish after two hours or so on some automatic feeders.
Not only can they dispense food; some also dispense water. This ensures that your pet will constantly have fresh water. If you want to give your pet purified water—or if that is what it insists on drinking—some come with water filters.
A feeding time alert comes on a few models, a sound that alerts your pet to the time. Some use a simple beep; some let you record yourself calling the pet to its meal, so it hears your voice and comes. If your pet has a poor sense of time, you may want to consider this.
