What’s the old saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”? Sure you can. Older dogs can successfully be housebroken. Whether the dog was only trained on a leash or it is just having problems with previously learned housetraining it is possible although it may take longer than a puppy to train. Crate train an older dog just as you would a puppy. Schedules are also encouraged when training older dogs. Older dogs have larger bladders and more control than puppies so they should be taken out at least once every three hours until trained.
