Hopefully, if you follow these methods carefully, you won’t have many messes to clean up. But accidents do happen.
First of all, put your puppy (or adult dog) out of sight while you clean up a puddle. Dog mothers clean up after their babies but you don't want your puppy to think that you do, too! If there is someone else in the house, have them take Fido out the potty spot while you clean up the mess.
To clean carpeting, blot the spot with paper towels until no more comes up. Next, give it a couple squirts of a homemade solution of one part water, one part white vinegar. This helps get rid of the stain and mask the odor. Blot up the water/vinegar solution with new paper towels. Get the spot as dry as possible. Now, sprinkle some baking soda over the spot to draw up any remaining odor. Sweep it up after a few hours and you should be stain and odor free.
There are many products on the market for carpet stains, but some contain harmful chemicals. They can hurt your pet and, less importantly, your carpet. Try the home remedy first; it’s safer, cheaper and usually just as effective.
