How do I reprimand my naughty pooch?

If you catch your puppy starting to squat, stay calm. Usually if you clap your hands loud, it will startle the pooch enough to stop it in the act. Tell it “no” as you pick it up and carry it to the potty spot. Tell it “This is where you go potty,”or “Potty outside.” Let him do his business and then praise him. Wait a few minutes before bringing him back inside.

Any other corrections such as rubbing his nose in it, smacking with newspapers, yelling, beating or slapping will confuse and scare him.

If you come across an “old” accident, don’t punish him at all. He won’t be able to connect the past act with your present anger and won't understand what you're so mad about.
