Because cats sleep close to 70% of the time, picking the right cat bed for your pet is very important. It is crucial for cats to get deep sleep in order to achieve full health and well-being. Cat beds can be as simple as a folded up blanket or pillow placed in a strategic location, but a cat’s favorite spot to get some shut eye is probably your bed. Even though your cat may enjoy sleeping with you most of the time, there is always the threat of getting kicked off the bed or rolled over on, so he will appreciate having his own spot to catch some Z’s.
Choosing a cat bed sounds like an easy task, but beds for felines come in more shapes, sizes, fabrics and styles than human beds! They can be lined in fleece or faux fur, be round or flat, or be fluffy or firm. It might be a good idea to start with a simple (and less expensive) cat bed and see how your cat responds to it. If he chooses to ignore it completely, maybe he is perfectly happy to continue sharing your bed. If he seems very interested, you could do more research and try out different styles. This way you don’t waste too much money on the designer model that your cat will simply turn his nose up to.
Cats love to watch the world go by from atop a perch. Placing a cat bed atop a climbing tree or cat condo is a great place to put a bed, if the climbing tree or condo does not already come equipped with a place to sleep. If you don’t have these items, place the bed in a basket, on a shelf, by a window, or wherever else you think your cat would be comfortable. If you have more than one cat, you may buy them separate beds as cats like to have their own spaces. There are, however, some cats that would prefer snuggling up with their feline friend and share a bed that is nice and warm.
