Today Peru is a land with a large mass of 1,280,000 square kilometres and an equally large population. The country is listed at number 41 in terms of the world’s population and this is a figure that is constantly on a steady increase. Over the past 50 years, locals have seen the population rate explode with it trebling from 1940 to 1990 from 7 million people to the estimated figure of 22 million citizens.

This figure continues to rise and in the space of 16 years, the beginning of 2006 saw the population rise by a further 8 million people living in the country, the total figure now amounts to just over 28 million.
