For Peru this is an area with a vast and certainly rapid population growth, in 1990 the total figure of people living in the country was estimated at around 22 million and this figures has tripled in the last 50 years because in 1940 the population was just 7 million inhabitants and in 1961 still only the estimated figure of 10.4 million citizens. The figure of people living in the country is on the grow and despite these large numbers, the growth is only an annual rate of 2.6%
You will find that when you visit most of the country has only small number of people living in a particular and the biggest number of the total population resided in the highlands of Peru (this figures amounts to about 70%) at the end of the 19th century whilst 25% were situated along the coastal regions and only 5% lived in the eastern lowlands.
In the early 90’s, the number of people living amongst the highlands dropped to a third of the total population and today more than half have uprooted and reside along the coastal regions of Peru.
Religion plays a major factor in the area and wherever you visit, you will find there are many churches in dedication to the vast number of religions that are preached in the area. In total there are more than a dozen for the entire population and whilst Catholic is the common religion in Peru, there is a mixture of different cultures and beliefs blending together.
