There is a variety of more common animals that you will come across whilst visiting Peru and there are rarer types of wildlife that you may get lucky and witness in its natural environment.

You will come across creatures like the puma and jaguar and birds like the toucan or macaw which is common to Peru but one creature that is very unusual and rarely seen is the Peruvian Inca Orchid – known as the Inca Hairless dog.

If you visit the Andes then you will see llamas and alpaca’s gracing the area and throughout all of the mountain ranges in this centralised location, you will see them in their natural habitat.

In terms of birds and butterflies, Peru is known as one of the most diverse areas for having such a collection. There are more than 1700 species of birds in the Amazon area alone – the giant condor is the largest bird on earth and you will regularly see the condor with its ten foot wingspan flying through the area and they can cruise for hours with a rare flap of the wing.

The different varieties of beautiful butterflies which is currently at 3,700 species and with many other butterflies waiting to be registered, the new total is estimated to be around 4,200 – overall, most species of known species can be found in various locations throughout Peru.
